Yarn weight is a measurement system that is used to categorize yarns according to their thickness. This system is used worldwide by knitters, crocheters, and other fiber artists.
There are many different yarn weight systems, but the most common one is the one used in the United States. This system is based on the number of wraps per inch (wpi) that a yarn makes when it is held double.
The yarn weight system is divided into seven categories, from the lightest (lace) to the heaviest (bulky).
