The ever popular 4ply weight yarn is perfect for fine knits like baby garments, shawls, fair isle garments, socks and accessories.
On a little baby the finer 4ply looks perfect with DK sometimes being a little bulky. Great for spring and summer hence using it for shawls.
Recommended needles size used for sock knitting in 4ply is 2.25mm - 2.75mm but for baby garments 3mm - 3.25mm

4ply also 'lasts longer' as due to its finer weight can go further than its thicker counterparts.
Its fineness can have some downsides, and suits more adventurous beginners to intermediate.
