The staple is long, curly and remarkably glossy, and spun fine like this it produces a yarn with a silk-like sheen that catches the light in a way shorter-stapled wools cannot. That lustre is also what makes it take dye so brilliantly - colours land clear and luminous rather than chalky.
Perfect for shawls, lace and fine-gauge accessories where drape and shine matter more than elasticity. Wensleydale has less bounce than a Down breed, so it hangs beautifully but is not the choice for close ribbing. Undyed it is a warm natural white with visible shine.
