Knitting for Olive – Oat Wrap Knitting Kit

Oat Wrap is a little textured wrap-blouse with buttons and stockinette edges, worked from the bottom up in Knitting for Olive Merino. The oat stitch pattern gives it a soft, pebbled surface that looks far more involved than it is to work.
The body is knitted in one piece back and forth, with buttonholes worked up to the underarms. The sleeves are worked separately in the round, then body and sleeves are joined on one needle and the yoke shaped with raglan decreases, with more buttonholes worked as you go. The neckline is finished with an I-cord edge. The hem and cuff edges are folded and can either be knitted down as you work them or sewn down afterwards, whichever you prefer.
Knitted in Knitting for Olive Merino, the finished wrap is soft, light, and gentle against a baby's skin.

A note on the needles
This one genuinely does need circulars. The body is cast on in a single piece across 161 stitches for the smallest size and 269 for the largest, so even though you're knitting flat, the stitches won't fit on straights. A 60cm cable holds the smaller sizes comfortably, but the two largest sizes need 80cm.
The double-pointed needles are for the sleeves, which are worked in the round on a small number of stitches. You can use Magic Loop on a long circular instead if you prefer, and the pattern uses Magic Loop for the sleeve sections again once the yoke is joined.
Techniques used
Long-tail cast-on, folded and knitted-down edges, buttonholes, knitting in the round, joining sleeves to body, raglan decreases worked within the stitch pattern, I-cord edging, and Kitchener stitch to graft the I-cord closed. Knitting for Olive have a video tutorial for the M1R and M1L increases.
