Maybole Mittens – Beginner Knitting Pattern
Designed by Tilde Olsen for Orry Yarn Merino DK
This beginner‑friendly knitting pattern is designed by Tilde Olsen and created specifically for our new Orry Yarn Merino DK. A soft, springy, ethically sourced merino wool, it’s the perfect yarn for new knitters to practise stitch techniques while enjoying a beautifully smooth, forgiving fabric.
The Maybole Mittens are knitted flat as a textured rectangle:
- Rib stitch to gently hug the wrist
- Moss stitch for balanced texture across the hand
- Garter stitch edge finished with an Icelandic bind off
Once knitted, the piece is folded and seamed, leaving a thumb opening — a simple, confidence‑building construction ideal for beginners.
This design is the third step in The Orry Mill Yarn School – Learn to Knit Series, introducing knitters to combining knit and purl stitches to create new textures. By using DK weight yarn, this pattern gently bridges the move towards finer yarns without losing that quick, satisfying project feel.
