The Sophie Hood is worked back and forth in one piece, in garter stitch with i-cord edges, running from one point right through to the other. The hood itself is shaped with increases and decreases, then closed at the back of the neck with mattress stitch at the very end. It is a scarf and a hood at once, and it stays put in a way a scarf never does.
We have made it up in Sandnes Garn Kos, a chainette spun from 62% baby alpaca, 9% wool and 29% nylon. I have knitted this one myself in Kos and am delighted with how it turned out. It is soft enough to sit against your face and cheek, which on a hood matters more than on anything else, and the chainette keeps it light so it does not drag on your shoulders.

Garter stitch throughout, so nothing complicated row by row. The rating comes from the i-cord edges, keeping the shaping straight, and the mattress stitch seam at the end.
Sizes: small (medium) large.
Length, point to point: approx. 102 (128) 154 cm.
Hood depth: approx. 24 cm in all sizes.
Gauge: 17 stitches and 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm in garter stitch on 5 mm needles.

Choosing your size
The hood is the same depth in every size, so what changes is the length of the two ends. Small gives you a short tie at the front, medium enough to cross over, and large enough to wrap and still hang. Pick by how you want to wear it rather than by your measurements.

Yarn Usage
Sandnes Garn Kos is 50 g / 150 m per ball. PetiteKnit do not list Kos for this pattern, but Eco Cashmere Vintage, which they do list, is also 150 m to a 50 g ball, so the quantities carry across directly. Our own medium came out at exactly 4 balls.
