Bracken Sweater

Design BF021 · Bramble & Fleece Autumn/Winter Collection

Worked top down in an all-over cable stitch, this sweater has dropped sleeves which are picked up from the body. This is a showstopper piece, worked in Bramble & Fleece Sheepsoft DK.

Bracken is knitted seamlessly and requires no sewing at all. The back yoke is worked first, then the fronts separately and joined, the body continued in the round, and the sleeves picked up around the armholes. Every edge is finished with twisted rib and a tubular Italian bind-off. It is the most ambitious pattern in the collection and the one experienced knitters will want.

Which yarn does the Bracken Sweater use?

Bracken is written for Bramble & Fleece Sheepsoft DK, a blend of soft British Bluefaced Leicester with hardier Masham at 225m per 100g hank. You will need 700g to 1000g depending on size — 7 to 10 hanks.

Is it seamless?

Completely. Bracken is worked top down with the sleeves picked up around the armholes, so there is no seaming or mattress stitch anywhere in the garment. You will need to be comfortable with cables from a chart, working flat then joining in the round, twisted rib and a tubular Italian bind-off.

This is a digital knitting pattern supplied as a PDF download in English, with charts, a full abbreviations table, construction notes and metric and imperial measurements. Yarn and needles are sold separately.
