Sloe Snood

Design BF001 · Bramble & Fleece Autumn/Winter Collection

This snood features a softly structured silhouette, finished with a ribbed trim for a clean, considered look. The pattern gives instructions for working both flat and in the round, so you can choose whichever you prefer. Knitted in Bramble & Fleece Wooltrace DK, it is soft yet durable, with beautiful stitch definition that enhances the simplicity of the design.

Two depths are given. The smaller version is an ideal first project beyond a scarf: just knit and rib, worked widthways, with no shaping to follow. The larger version adds depth for a snood you can wear pulled up over the chin on the coldest mornings.

Which yarn does the Sloe Snood use?

The Sloe Snood is written for Bramble & Fleece Wooltrace DK, a 100% British Romney DK spun in Yorkshire at 225m per 100g hank. Romney is a hardy longwool, so the ribbed trim keeps its spring and the snood holds its shape rather than dropping with wear. Every hank carries a QR code tracing the wool back to the farm it came from. You will need 2 hanks for the smaller version or 3 for the larger.

Is this pattern suitable for a beginner?

Yes. The smaller version is worked entirely in knit stitch with a four-row rib at each edge, so the only techniques you need are casting on, knit, purl and casting off in pattern. The larger version is worked flat and finished with a single mattress-stitch seam.

This is a digital knitting pattern supplied as a PDF download in English, with UK and US needle sizes and both metric and imperial measurements throughout. Yarn and needles are sold separately.
