Bramble & Fleece Stone Scarf - Knitting Kit

Designed by Bramble & Fleece

A long cabled scarf worked lengthways in a single shade of Bramble & Fleece Wooltrace 4 Ply. A central cable panel framed by garter and rib borders, with no cable needle required.

Worked at a fine gauge over 232 cm, the scarf wraps twice with plenty left to drape.

Wooltrace is the range where Bramble & Fleece take provenance as far as it will go. Every hank carries a QR code on the ball band that traces the wool back to the farm it came from, and the scheme guarantees fair payment to the sheep farmers and welfare standards for their flocks. The 4 Ply is worsted spun from 100% British Bluefaced Leicester, so stitch definition is sharp and the cable holds its shape.

Skill Level: Intermediate ★★★ (3 out of 5)

The cable is worked without a cable needle and the row repeat is written out in full, but the fine gauge and the length mean this is a project that rewards a steady hand rather than a first scarf.

Size: One size.

Width: 23 cm / 9 in.

Length: 232 cm / 91¼ in.

Gauge: 33 stitches and 34 rows = 10 x 10 cm over pattern on 3 mm needles, once blocked.

The Kit Includes

You'll Also Need

  • 3 mm needles (UK 11 / US 2-3)

Choosing your shade

The Wooltrace shades are solid rather than heathered, which suits a cable: there is no colour variation competing with the texture. The deeper shades show the cable most clearly. Nutmeg is the shade the scarf was photographed in.

Techniques used

  • Cabling without a cable needle
  • Yarn overs
  • A slipped-stitch decrease, worked as pass 2 slipped stitches over
  • Knit, purl and rib

Why You'll Love It

  • Wool you can trace back to the individual farm by the QR code on the band.
  • A cable project with no cable needle to drop or lose.
  • 100% British Bluefaced Leicester, worsted spun for a smooth yarn with real lustre.
  • Generously long, so it wraps twice and still drapes.
  • Twelve solid shades, every one of them doing the cable justice.
