The Thirsk Scarf is worked in a herringbone Fair Isle design, combining a classic pattern with a clean, modern feel. Knitted in two shades of Bramble & Fleece Sheepsoft 4 Ply, it offers lightweight warmth and excellent stitch definition.
The scarf begins and ends with a folded stocking-stitch hem, and the long side edges are finished with picked-up edgings on a circular needle, so every edge is neat and nothing curls. The herringbone motif is a 12-stitch chart repeat worked six times across the row.

Thirsk is written for Bramble & Fleece Sheepsoft 4 Ply, a fingering-weight blend of soft British Bluefaced Leicester with hardier Masham, in 50g balls. You will need two balls of each of two shades — four balls in total.
What techniques does it use?
Stranded Fair Isle colourwork from a chart, a folded hem knitted into the cast-on edge, increases distributed across a row, and picking up stitches along a side edge. This is a rewarding project if you have done a little colourwork and want something more considered than a plain stranded hat.
